June 27th 2015 was such an amazing day for me! I am still smiling. Months before this all went down, I decided to challenge myself by completing two 5K’s in a single day. It all started with a dilemma – there were two races I wanted to do, but they were both on the same day. Luckily, it all worked out in my favor. I chose a later wave for the Dirty Girl Mud Run, which allowed me to do my other 5K earlier.
Saturday morning I finished my first race with a finish time PR of 47:10. I was ecstatic!! The day was already off to a good start. Once I got to Dirty Girl Mud Run, I met up with my good friend. I wanted to treat her to a fun girl’s day because it has been years since we’ve seen each other. So I figured, what better way to reunite than at the Dirty Girl Mud Run?! I have to admit as we walked over to the Start Line, and I saw that the obstacle course was in a parking lot and not on a field or some sort of open grassland, I was a little disappointed. But you better believe that did not let ruin my experience!
My friend (Heather) and I did the 1:15 P.M. wave. The announcer was a lot of fun. I LOVED the quote he kept saying, “Friends don’t let friends stay clean”. Heather was shouting that throughout the course and people who heard her started cheering and smiling.
Immediately hitting the first obstacle, we were muddy right away! We were crawling through a big mud pit, which was hard on my knees, due to the concrete under the pit. Regardless, I was off to a good start and was no longer worried about how well I would do during day. As we went further along, we came across the H2OMG obstacle and I was a little afraid as I have horrible balance. Luckily, I made it across, but not without a fight of the huge pink balls swinging around. At this point my legs were feeling a little fatigued. I was trying to carefully step down on the stairs and a pink ball knocked me down and off the obstacle. Luckily, I caught myself and ended up jumping off of the platform. We both started laughing and were on our way to the next obstacle.
When I got to the huge net and started climbing, I was nervous and scared, but I still pushed through. When I made it to the top, I felt so accomplished but still nervous with trying to get my body over to the other side to climb down. I absolutely adore the pictures on the net that the photographer captured!
A favorite obstacle of mine was Slidin’ Dirty. We had to climb up a small net and then roll or climb across another net, making our way to a pole. You heard me right!! A POLE!!!! How awesome is that?! It was so fun sliding down and at the end I felt so accomplished!
Another one of my favorites was Dirty Dancing. This was a giant mudslide that swooshes you into another mud pit. It was AMAZING!!!!! I had a freaking BLAST!! Yet again, the photographer and my husband caught some pretty hilarious photos of Heather and I.
As Heather and I neared the finish line, we pranced hand through the mud pit, hand in muddy hand, where we received our AWESOME medals!!! Those things were big and they were awesome!!!!
Though I was exhausted, my body sore and cramping as I had pushed my limits, IT WAS SO
Will I do it again next year?! HECK YES!!! I just hope to see a better location next year.
Dirty Girl was my first mud run/obstacle course and I’m so happy! Even with the few flaws in my opinion, I could not have chosen a better mud run for my first! Dirty Girl has a special place in my heart! I’m sending a very special shout out to everyone at Dirty Girl! XO
